House of Lords Committee calls for action now to safeguard EU nationals
The risk of the loss of EU citizenship rights for EU nationals in the UK, and for UK nationals in EU member states, as a consequence of Brexit requires action “now”, says a House of Lords report published today by the EU justice sub-committee.
The influential report has highlighted the anxiety and uncertainty felt by these groups and has recommended that ‘the Government should change its policy and give a unilateral guarantee now that it will safeguard the EU citizenship rights of all EU nationals in the UK post-Brexit. The overwhelming weight of the evidence we received points to this as morally the right thing to do. It would also have the advantage of striking a much needed positive note for the start of the negotiations.’
