Launch of new support for disabled people in transitions and employability
The Scottish Government has launched a series of new schemes aimed at supporting young disabled people across the country.
The first wave of the Scottish Independent Living Fund will provide £5m of short term awards to support young disabled people between 16 and 21 with their transition to adult services and to maintain a focus on their own personal goals.
Meanwhile a media campaign has been launched to encourage businesses to recognise the benefits of employing disabled people. Under the UN Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities, disabled people have the right to work and governments need to take steps to promote their employment, including employment within the private sector.
