Glasgow North West MP Carol Monaghan’s constituent is one of those caught up in the Windrush scandal.

The UK Government has been heavily criticised this week for threatening Commonwealth immigrants who came to the UK under the Nationality Act, with deportation, and denying them employment, NHS services and a passport.

Monaghan’s constituent arrived in the UK in 1968 from Kenya, is married with two children and has worked in Glasgow for all of his adult life.  Both his parents were British passport holders from the time when Kenya was part of the British Empire.

However, over a three-year period, difficulties with proving his citizenship saw him lose his job and entitlement to benefits. He was also charged for accessing NHS services after losing his right to live in Britain.
