New guide to UN Convention Against Torture
The Equality and Human Rights Commission has published a new guide that explains the issues covered by the United Nations (UN) Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.
The guide aims to provide civil society organisations in the UK with the information they need to use the Convention to:
- hold governments to account on their commitments to prevent and protect against torture and ill-treatment
- bring its perpetrators to justice
- provide redress to victims
You can read the guide here.
Civil society will be involved in submitting evidence around UK implementation of the UN Convention Against Torture in early 2019. To find out more about plans, sign up to become an HRCS member or get in touch at hrcscotland@gmail.com
