Scottish Parliament roadmap on human rights

the words human rights with lots of different coloured hands

The Scottish Parliament’s Equalities and Human Rights Committee have carried out an in-depth inquiry into the Parliament’s role as a human rights guarantor, and what is needed to make that happen.  After meetings and evidence from individuals and groups across Scotland, including from the Human Rights Consortium Scotland, the Committee have now produced their roadmap full of specific recommendations.

Their ‘Getting Rights Right’ report includes:

  • Ensuring a human rights legal resource in the Parliament
  • Improving human rights information on Bills
  • The Scottish Government and public authorities should resource third sector to be more involved in international treaty monitoring
  • Help Parliament to develop human rights based approach to scrutiny.

You can read the full report here.

HRCS members are invited to a roundtable to take stock of the detail of this report, 10.30-12.30 on 12th March in Edinburgh.  You can find details of this meeting here.
