Fee scrapped for EU Citizens’ new immigration status

The government will scrap the £65 fee that EU citizens must pay if they want to remain in the UK after Brexit, Theresa May has announced.

Previously the new settled status for EU citizens who want to continue to live in the UK was planned to cost £32.50 for children and £65 for adults. The Scottish Government had announced that they would pay the fee for those in the public sector, and several other employers had also said they would meet the fee.

Now as Theresa May seeks to win fresh backing for her Brexit deal, she told MPs that the government will “waive the application fee so there is no financial barrier for any EU nationals who want to stay”.

All EU nationals still have to apply to the EU Settlement Scheme and provide the necessary paperwork to show 5 years residency, and have to do so by 30 June 2021.
