It’s time to incorporate child rights!
The Human Rights Consortium Scotland was a signatory to a letter to the Minister for Children and Young People, Maree Todd MSP asking her to confirm a date when a consultation on a bill that will incorporate the UNCRC into Scots law will be published.
Written by Together: Scottish Alliance on Children’s Rights, the letter also reiterates the call for the Bill to be introduced in this parliamentary session. The letter concludes:
‘International experience shows us that incorporation makes a real tangible difference to children and young people’s experience of their rights. It sparks a culture change that affects legislation, policy and practice, raising awareness and respect of children as rights-holders and ensuring that the UNCRC is at the heart of decisions made at a local and national level.’
