After many years of campaigning, & several UN recommendations, law in Scotland has been changed. Children will now have equal protection from assault.
The defence of ‘justifiable assault’ will be removed, after MSPs voted 84 – 29 to approve John Finnie MSP’s Private Members’ Bill.
Scotland is now the first country in the UK to ban outright the physical punishment of children, bringing it into line with 57 other countries who already give children this equal legal protection.
