The Consortium has responded to the consultation on Elaine Smith MSP’s proposed Private Members’ Bill on the Right to Food, which closed on 15th September 2020. The Bill seeks to incorporate the right to food into Scots law, ensuring that there are legal mechanisms to protect the right.

We strongly support the aims of the Bill, and urge it to aim for the strongest possible incorporation of the right to food, which would enshrine international rights principles such as non-discrimination. We highlight that the Bill comes at an important time, when the Covid-19 pandemic has exacerbated inequalities and food insecurity.
