Equalities and Human Rights Committee Publishes Covid-19 Report
The Scottish Parliament’s Equalities and Human Rights Committee has published its report on the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on human rights in Scotland.
The report is broad in focus, examining the effects of the pandemic- and the Scottish Government’s response- on disabled people, older people, women, black and minority ethnic communities, LGBT+ people and children and young people. It also scrutinises the impact on access to food, social care and other basic services.
We welcome the findings of the report, which has demonstrated what members of the Consortium have been saying since March 2020; that the pandemic has had disproportionately negative effects on people who were already vulnerable. The Covid-19 pandemic has been a time when many people have experienced significant infringements of their human rights. Human rights, particularly for vulnerable people and those in protected characteristic groups, must therefore be at the heart of the country’s recovery.
